Before we start, I want to tell you something straightaway.
I hate Web Promotion. I hate it more than you do, and I always have.
Web promotion is all about getting links and traffic to sites. You can build one million quality sites but with no proper web promotion, you will never see money coming in.
Most web promotion tactics have one thing in common – trying to rank high in search engines results. In the old fashion days, I loved to submit my sites to hundreds of link directories. It worked like magic until the search engines changed their algorithms.
Then the next big thing was Blog and Ping. It was one of the most powerful web promotion system. I could easily get my pages indexed in a couple of hours and rank high in search engines.

If you have got any sort of business online, you need to realise backlink building basics. First of all, you have to accept the fact that, yes, you are going to want to get inbound links to your web content (whether it is a blog or website) for you to start getting pure web search traffic. Here are some ways to get links to your site.
Article submission is one extraordinarily effective technique. If you can make a quality article that’s’s approximately 500 words long and submit it to the many article directories, you will be getting a lot of inbound links before long. The key word is “quality” – the better the article, the more valuable it is to your audience, the more this will work for you.
List Submission is another one of the easier link building basics. There are more link directories online than you can most likely imagine. All you’ve got to do is find the hottest ones and submit your site. Some are free and some will charge money. If you do pay a fee, ensure that the site has a high google ranking and gets a good deal of traffic.
Try social bookmarking. Using the social book-marking sites StumbleUpon, Digg and Technorati (there are hundreds more to choose between) is a way to get links to your website. Just register and submit your site or articles for folks to bookmark. This gains you more popularity and more links.
Another method is to use offline advertising. With more and more folk becoming “net saavy” and, more especially, “net business savvy”, you can start to stand out by focusing on the world that’s’s offline. Go to meetings or conventions in your industry and hand out your business cards. Once you begin building relationships with people in the flesh, it’s much easier for you to make them see what you’re up to on the Interntet. You can take this one step further and interview some people who are key in your industry. If you can manage to get a hold of someone that is an expert and who isn’t often very public with their answers, you have hit the bulls-eye.
Giving away stuff is another method to get folks to link to your site. Hold a competition to get the interest of others or, even better, build an online tool collection of the sorts of instruments that folk need. An example of this is a mortgage calculator… you get the idea. You can come up with your own electronic book and offer it for free in return for feedback about your website. You can offer free examples of a product that you sell or promote. Again, there are tons of paths to shape this idea to fit your business and site.
Hopefully you’ll start to use a number of these link building basics to gain more inbound links to your web content.

I put a lot of my thought into developing strategies for search engine optimization (SEO) for my business’s many traditional websites and blogs. Basically, an Internet business has only two choices when it comes to improving SEO. One of those is to handle your optimization efforts in-house, while the other is to hire a consulting firm to assist you in the project. I have three primary concerns about such companies. Some of them are not nearly as well informed as they ought to be about the details of optimizing for the various major search engines. Some of them seem to prefer to respond to the latest rumor rather than relying upon solid empirical data; perhaps they just lack the necessary analytical skills. Some of the simply disguise themselves as experts, and then go out and purchase links from link farms. These ill-purchased links occasionally allow your site to show short term gains, but those advances disappear about the time your check to the consultants clears the bank. My third concern about these companies is that they are usually very expensive for the limited value that you actually might achieve.
You should already know what my recommended solution is from reading between the lines of my first paragraph: Take the time to educate your company team unless you want to hire the few very expensive geniuses in the field, such as Leslie Rhode, Brad Fallon or Dan Thies–if you can get them to work for you at any price.
But to take the do it yourself approach, you need some help in the form of basic search engine optimization education and good, well engineered software to help you gather and analyze the immense amount of data required to indicate potential areas of improvement and to track the results of the strategies that you implement. I have a comparison of the important SEO software that is available at one of my sites.
I have long been a long term supporter of SEO Elite (see sales page). This software is one of the products of the Callen brothers’ company, and it has been a leader in the SEO software niche for many years. I generally recommend it without any reservations. However, I know that the company plans to release a new version of SEO Elite in the near future, so I hesitate giving it my full endorsement right now, unless you can find out if those of us who own the original will be able to upgrade SEO Elite 2.0 at a reduced rate or unless you decide to by another Callen miracle solution, Keyword Elite, because you can buy both at the same time for a substantial discount. I bought both at the same time and, together, they are still among the best investments I have ever made!
The other top level SEO software is Leslie Rohde’s Optilink (you’ll land on the sales page). Leslie Rohde is the patron saint of optimization, a genuine genius. Rohde taught me much of what I know about search engine optimization. Pardon the intrusion of my ego, but I know a heck of a lot about the subject.
If your business can afford the expense, I urge you to buy both software options–and use them both (along with Keyword Elite). However, if you are new to the online business world and you are going to begin your optimization efforts using just one, I’m going to break with my longstanding position of suggesting SEO Elite and recommend Optilink, instead–temporarily, at least, until I have an opportunity to thoroughly test SEO Elite 2.0.
Both SEO Elite and Optilink are comparably priced at just under $200 each, which is a bargain. Only if you are really pinched for cash, Rohde’s company also offers a less sophisticated aid, Optispider, that is only half as costly as the robust Optilink. Furthermore, if you are shopping in the bargain basement, another software tool you could consider is Mark Ling’s Traffic Travis in the same price range as Optispider, that is about $100. I describe each of those alternatives in my lengthy review (see the link in the first paragraph).
I am a frequent user of both SEO Elite and Optilink, and I believe that they compliment each other marvelously. They are tremendous time savers in both gathering the data and in helping make sense of it all.
